"Absolutely fabulous!! I'm having great fun just blowing things up and toying with physics." — A genuine opinion by Mikey F (FPSC User)

Character Studio

3D Studio Max users can modify the animations of models in FPS Creator by using Character Studio. We have provided the Character Studio BIP file for free from our downloads section. There is also a .FIG file which can be used to set-up the skeleton. These should work with any version of Character Studio.

The BIP file includes a "firespot" tag, which is used for viewable weapon alignment. This can be imported in with the animation data by using the "Load Max Objects" option in the Biped - Load File menu option.

Exporting Models

Using the following steps to export the models from 3D Studio into a format that will work with FPS Creator. You will require the Pandasoft DirectX Exporter, version 4.6.0.57 or above.

  1. Set the FPS to "custom" and enter 25 frames per second
  2. "Hide" all Biped objects before exporting, otherwise they will be visible in your game. The only visible objects should be the character mesh and the Firespot.
  3. Use the "Binary compressed" option for FPS Creator - however this causes problems when viewing the X file in programs like Deep Exploration. If you want to view the X file in other 3rd party software then export using the "Text" option first.
  4. The animation file is big. Exporting to an X file can sometimes take 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the speed of your PC.

The following screen shots show the settings required in the Pandasoft DirectX Exporter.
